Lissette Schaeffler is a photographer with an interest in human relationships. She focuses on families, especially her own. Lissette is fascinated by the kinds of relationships we do not choose. Since moving so much from place to place as a child didn’t allow time to explore different types of relationships, especially friendships, this fueled Lissette’s interest in photographing her family, something she knows very well. She explores the aging process, and the way her family endures it, and ultimately how they relate to her, the photographer. Whether traditional, digital or manipulated, her aesthetic is mainly documentary, though she is currently exploring a more conceptual point of view within the same theme.
Lissette was born in Cuba, and raised in Germany. She came to the United States when she was 12 years old. Her interest in Photography started as an undergraduate student. Lissette graduated with a B.S. from the University of Miami (Miami, Florida) in 1998, and continued developing her photographic skills at Florida International University until she decided to pursue an MFA in Photography at Savannah College of Art and Design, where she received her degree in 2004. Lissette has exhibited throughout the United States. She lives and photographs in Miami, Florida
